Las Vegas Has Everything — Except Enough Help for Everyone

A closer look at the city we love, the neighbors who go unseen, and why showing up matters.

Most people know Las Vegas as a city of spectacle — glittering lights, world-class entertainment, and the kind of energy that keeps you up past midnight. And that city is real. It’s home to nearly 3 million people in the metro area, a community that keeps growing year after year, drawing families, workers, dreamers, and people building something new.

But alongside that growth, there is another Las Vegas — one that doesn’t always make the headlines. A city where thousands of residents are quietly navigating hunger, housing instability, and hardship. People who live here. People who work here. People who matter.

At Lifting Up Vegas, this is the city we think about every single day. And it’s why we show up.

A Growing City With Growing Needs

Las Vegas and the surrounding Clark County region have grown faster than nearly any other metro area in the country. With a population now approaching 3 million residents, Southern Nevada draws thousands of new neighbors every year — people drawn by opportunity, affordability, and the promise of a fresh start.

But growth alone doesn’t solve the challenges that come with it. In fact, it often intensifies them. As the city has expanded, so has the gap between those who are thriving and those who are barely holding on.

Three Square Food Bank, which serves Southern Nevada, estimates that roughly 15 percent of the population struggles with food access. That’s hundreds of thousands of people in our own backyard who are uncertain about where their next meal is coming from.

Housing has become increasingly out of reach. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s 2025 report, more than 85 percent of extremely low-income renters in the Las Vegas area experience severe housing cost burdens. Rents that rose sharply in recent years have not come back down. Eviction filings surged over 40 percent compared to pre-pandemic averages. And for every 100 low-income renter households, there are only 13 affordable and available rental homes in the Las Vegas metro area.

These are not abstract statistics. They are our neighbors.

The Neighbors Who Often Go Unseen

When we talk about food insecurity and instability in Las Vegas, it is easy to picture a single image. But the reality is far more varied — and far more human.

On any given night, the most recent Southern Nevada Point-in-Time count found nearly 8,000 people experiencing homelessness in Clark County, the highest number recorded in a decade. Among them: women, families, and people between the ages of 35 and 44 at the highest rates. People who did not plan to be where they are. People navigating job loss, medical crises, domestic hardship, and the kind of circumstances that can unravel a life quickly and quietly.

But homelessness is only one part of the picture. Food insecurity in Las Vegas also reaches people who have a roof over their heads — working families stretched too thin, seniors on fixed incomes, individuals between jobs, parents trying to feed children on next to nothing. These are people who may not be visible on the street, but who are struggling just the same.

Too many people in our community are facing difficult circumstances that often go unseen. Not because they aren’t there. But because it is easy to look away when life is busy, and because need doesn’t always announce itself.

We believe no one in Las Vegas should feel invisible.

What We Believe About Showing Up

Lifting Up Vegas was built on a simple but deeply held belief: that small acts of service, done consistently, can make a real difference.

We are not a massive institution. We are a grassroots organization made up of people who care about this city and the people who live in it. What we have is heart, consistency, and the willingness to keep showing up — whether that means distributing meals and hygiene kits along Boulder Highway, serving coffee and bagels at Sunset Park on a Saturday morning, or putting together Easter baskets for children in the hospital.

Every single one of those moments matters. Not just because it meets an immediate physical need, but because it says something to the person receiving it: you are seen. You are worth showing up for. You are not forgotten.

Dignity is not a luxury. It is something every person deserves, regardless of their circumstances. We do our best to lead with that in everything we do — with warmth, without judgment, and with the kind of practical, consistent care that actually makes a difference on the ground.

How You Can Be Part of This

Here’s the honest truth: we can’t do this alone. The needs across Las Vegas are real, they are growing, and meeting them takes more than one organization, one team, or one outreach event. It takes a community that decides to show up for itself.

There are many ways to be part of what Lifting Up Vegas is building:

•        Volunteer with us. Whether you’re helping distribute meals, packing supplies, writing encouraging notes, or supporting an event from behind the scenes — your time is one of the most valuable things you can give. No experience needed. Just a willing heart and a few hours.

•        Donate. Every dollar goes toward meals, hygiene supplies, clothing, and the practical resources that make our outreach possible. You can give once, or set up a monthly gift to support ongoing work throughout the year.

•        Partner with us. If you represent a business, church, school, or organization that wants to invest in the Las Vegas community, we would love to talk. There are meaningful ways to collaborate and multiply your impact.

•        Help spread the word. Follow us on Instagram and TikTok at @liftingupvegas. Share our posts. Tell a friend. The more people who know we exist, the more people we can reach — both those who need help and those who want to give it.

Every contribution — large or small — helps us serve more people and strengthen our reach across Las Vegas. There is no minimum. There is no perfect way to help. There is only the decision to show up.

We’re Here Because This City Is Worth It

Las Vegas is loud and bright and full of life. It is also tender, and complicated, and home to people who are trying their hardest under difficult circumstances. Both of those things are true at the same time.

We are here for the whole city. We are here for the neighbors that the spotlight misses. And we believe, without hesitation, that the work of showing up with compassion and consistency — one meal, one conversation, one act of kindness at a time — is exactly the kind of work that changes things.

Thank you for being here with us.
